An excellent native tree planting event happened December 3rd at the Somenos Wetland at Beverly. St. Dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers worked hard to get 250 native shrubs and trees in the ground!! These will grow up over the years and shade out the currently invasive understory of introduced thistles and agronomic grasses. These trees will also provide habitat for birds and other wildlife and will shade the ponds which are home to 3-spined stickleback! This awesome initiative is funded by Environment and Climate Change Canada’s National Wetland Conservation Fund and the Municipality of North Cowichan.
