Somenos Creek Himalayan Blackberry Bash

  • Somenos Creek 2355 Beverly Street Duncan, BC Canada (map)

At this Volunteer Event, we will remove the invasive Himalayan Blackberry along the Somenos creekside (and eat the berries as we go of course!). Removing this blackberry allows the native plants already planted by our hard-working volunteers to thrive and also creates more room for us to plant in the fall. These planted trees create shade over the water, cooling the water’s temperature, and provide leaf litter and woody debris which improve oxygen levels in the water for fish habitat. Without a monoculture of blackberry, a variety of native species can increase the area’s overall biodiversity and better the area for songbirds and waterfowl.
