The very first WildWings Big Day Birding Competition hosted by Cowichan Valley Naturalists, pits Team Somenos against Team Cowichan Bay in a birding contest, between the Somenos Marsh Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) and the Cowichan Bay IBA to increase local knowledge about Cowichan’s two IBA’s and to introduce people to the fun and pleasure of birdwatching. Teams are led by local bird experts to find as many species as possible within each of the IBA boundaries. No experience is necessary but bring binoculars, spotting scopes or cameras with telephoto lenses if you are so equipped. The winning IBA announcement, and the awarding of the coveted IBA Rooster Award 2021, will take place at the Cowichan Bay Pub Beer & Burger event following the competition.
